  • The lighting design for this new-work musical lives in the tension between romanticism, the Victorian era, and modernity, defining two distinctly different worlds onstage. One is built from dark, cool tones that reflect despair, rules, and expectations, where the light feels heavy and restrictive. The other world is warm, saturated, and alive with wonder and lust, offering contrast through color, openness, and energy. A contemporary musical sensibility comes through in dramatic angles, clustered light sources, and bold color choices. By emphasizing body and form, the lighting creates sculptural, painterly images inspired by the artwork that shaped the production.
